QRadar: How to determine the physical dimensions and specifications of a QRadar appliance

Question & Answer

Question

How can you determine the physical specifications of an appliance?

Answer

QRadar uses Lenovo System x and ThinkSystem servers as well as Dell PowerEdge servers. IBM Documentation in the QRadar Hardware Guide includes most of the physical specifications for QRadar appliances. For more information about topics such as the weight or the depth of an appliance, refer to the information in the Specification Lookup section.

To look up hardware specifications for your specific appliance, you must first identify the underlying hardware platform by connecting to the relevant appliance with SSH.  Once connected through SSH, run the DMI Decode command, dmidecode -t1 | grep 'Product\|Family' to look for the Family and Product Name.
[root@qradar-host ~]# dmidecode -t1 | grep 'Product\|Family'
For QRadar M4 and M5 hardware appliances built on Lenovo System x hardware, reference the first four digits in the brackets in the Product Name to identify the Lenovo Machine Type. In the example output, this M5 Machine Type is shown as 8871.

M5 Example Output:
Product Name: System x3650 M5: -[8871AC1]-
Family: System X
For QRadar M6 hardware appliances built on Lenovo ThinkSystem hardware, reference the first four digits in the brackets in the Product Name to identify the Lenovo Machine Type. In the example output, this M6 Machine Type is shown as 7X02.
M6 Example Output:
Product Name: -[7X02CTO1WW]-
Family: ThinkSystem
For QRadar M4, M5, and M6 hardware appliances built on Dell PowerEdge hardware, the model is listed in the Product Name field after the PowerEdge family name. In the example output, the model is R740xd.
Dell PowerEdge Example Output:
Product Name: PowerEdge R740xd
Family: PowerEdge
