Troubleshooting
Problem
In IBM Rational Application Developer, attempts to send product diagnostic data may result in an increase in network resource utilization that might negatively impact the performance of the product.
Symptom
When an error occurs in the product, a diagnostic report is generated that can be sent to a centralized FTP server at IBM for analysis. The report is sent by clicking Send Error Report in the error dialog box.
This problem affects the following products:
- IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software versions 7.5 and 8.0 (all releases)
- IBM Rational Application Developer Standard Edition for WebSphere versions 7.5 and 8.0 (all releases)
Cause
When the feedback service sends the data, it can unexpectedly make a large number of FTP requests and cause a surge in network resource utilization that can negatively impact the performance of the product.
This issue was identified as a product defect and logged under APAR PM53336.
Resolving The Problem
This defect has been resolved in Interim fix 1 - Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, v7.5.5.5.
WORKAROUND:
Note: There is no work-around for this problem for all 7.5.x product versions.
For 8.0.x product versions the following work-around can be applied:
- Click Window > Preferences > General > Product Feedback
- Select Never send any data
- Click OK
