Prerequisite deployment checks for probes integrations

Question & Answer

Question

What deployment checks are required for probe integrations on a probe server?

Answer

The main check is the version of Netcool/OMNIbus.
Confirm whether 32-bit support is required, as not all probes are available as 64-bit binaries.
Check the list of probes to confirm whether a 64-bit test fix patch is available.

The Netcool/OMNIbus sizing guide includes the expected CPU (CORE) and memory requirements for a probe.
The nonnative probes run a Java and native probe binary.
32-bit probe binaries.
Additional packages are required for certain installable features.
If you want to run 32-bit probes or gateways, or other 32-bit products that are installed into the Netcool home location, the following packages are required. This list is not exhaustive: some products might require more packages.
    compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686
    glibc-2.12-1.7.el6.i686
    libgcc-4.4.4-13.el6.i686
    libstdc++-4.4.4-13.el6.i686
Example probe server size guide.
Cores: 2 for each probe
RAM: 2 GB for each probe
Allocate 2 cores to each probe to reduce the risk of bottlenecks.
If your expectations of network traffic indicate that both probes are unlikely to pick up events at the same time, reduce the number of cores.
Allocate memory generously so that the probes can buffer, if required.
