Problem
Powercube build fails with error:
(TR0220) The temporary file for PowerCube <powercube_name> is empty. Check that your source file contains data.
Cause
Transformer model data sources not returning data, or Powercubes defined with Dimension Views or Custom Views have all data for their views omitted resulting in the TR0220 error.
Diagnosing The Problem
Check for data sources returning zero records in the build log.
Review build log for DATA SOURCE READ entries containing log entry indicating zero records were read. For example,
End processing 0 records from data source 'data source name'.
End processing 0 records from data source 'data source name'.
If there's no data sources returning zero records, check Powercube definitions for Dimension Views that are filtering all data.
- In the Transformer model, open Powercube properties dialog, and go to the Dimensions tab. Check for Dimensions that have been assigned a view
- Then go to the Categories diagram to see what Dimension Views have been defined, and what categories they are set to add to the Powercubes
- Then test your data sources to verify whether they are returning any data for the Dimension Views categories. This can be done from Transformer. Refer to the steps in this technote to export the Transformer data sources to CSV. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/483003
The same steps can be used to verify if a Custom View is defined to only include records in a Powercube that are not being returned in data sources.
Resolving The Problem
If Transformer model data sources containing fact data does not return any records the cube build temp files will be empty and the TR0220 error will occur.
Verify data sources and signons used during the build process to ensure they are returning expected data.
