Why do users/groups need “write” access to a report to create a schedule for it?
Answer
You need write access to create the schedule because the schedule details are created as part of the report object properties. If you do not have write access to the report you cannot create a schedule entry beneath it.
So in addition to having the permissions to run the entry you will also require the write permission. Therefore, in order to schedule a report, a user/group will need to have read, traverse, execute and write permissions for it.
