Abstract

General Information The IBM Storage Area Network (SAN) Fibre Channel Managed Hub supports entry-level work group Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) connectivity for such applications as high-availability clustering, storage consolidation.

General Information

The IBM Storage Area Network (SAN) Fibre Channel Managed Hub supports entry-level work group Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) connectivity for such applications as high-availability clustering, storage consolidation, and LAN-free backup. The Managed Hub is designed for implementing entry-level homogeneous multinode server clusters and storage systems, providing high-speed interconnections for FC-AL environments. Features include:  

  • Industry standard Fibre Channel attachment
  • High-speed performance utilizing nonblocking switch-based technology
  • Simultaneous 100 MB/second full duplex data transfers across all ports
  • Eight ports, including one that is configurable with either a short wave or long wave optical GBIC
  • StorWatch FC Managed Hub Specialist, a Web browser interface for configuration, management, and service
  • Support of industry standard MIBs enabling standard SNMP management
  • IBM SystemXtra(TM) support services and financing

    *NOTE: A fiber optic cable is required for attaching the IBM SAN Fibre Channel Managed Hub to the host system adapters, or other storage area Fibre Channel components. The cable can be customer-supplied, or ordered with the Managed Hub in the lengths available. The attaching fiber cable must be 50.0/125 micrometers for distances up to 500 meters, or 62.5/125 micrometers for distances up to 175 meters. The connection is a duplex SC connector type.

Nonrack-mounted installation is supported. You must order one country-specific power cord.

Limitations:
In configurations with the IBM Fibre Channel Switch (2109S08/S16), all host systems must be attached to the FC Switch. Only storage systems can be attached to the FC Managed Hub.
