IBM System x3550 (Type 7978) server is designed to deliver the highest performance per watt with four processor cores and ultradense memory, advanced application performance with new chip architecture, and optimized power management with new integrated tools. This highly manageable, ultrathin, 1 U high, rack-optimized server features ultimate application density for power managed datacenters.

  • Powerful quad-core 3.0 GHz/1333 MHz E5450 Xeon (tm) processor with 12 MB L2 cache delivering up to 10.6 Gb/s data transfer rate

  • 8 DIMM slots enables customers to deploy up to 32 GB of fully buffered DDR2 PC2-5300 memory, with 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) of memory standard

  • Integrated SAS or SATA HDs with RAID support
  • Support for hot-swap SAS, simple-swap SATA, and hot-swap SATA HDs
  • High-performance hot-swap SAS HDDs
  • Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA) on selected components that warns of problems before they occur
CD and DVD drive
  • IDE controller supporting 12.7 mm CD-RW/DVD Combo V drive

  • Two PCI-Express x8 slots (full height, half length); one slot convertible to PCI-X via riser card option 64-bit/133 MHz (full height, half length)

  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet controllers for high I/O capacity, plus failover capability

  • Memory mirroring and hot spare memory configurable using BIOS setup
