Abstract
Features and technical details of the 9.1GB Ultra160 SCSI hard disk drive
Content
General informationIBM has enhanced its SCSI hard disk drive (HDD) lineup with the latest generation offerings that provide higher performance and increased capacity.
The new offerings provide customers with:
- Spindle speeds available in top-performing 10,000 rpm and the value-oriented 7200 rpm
- Support for the new Ultra160 SCSI protocol, doubling interface speeds from last year and enabling more drives per cable
- Perfect SCSI solutions for non-hot-swap Netfinity servers, IntelliStation workstations, and many PC 300 desktop systems
These HDDs have Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.), which warn of predictable forms of impending hard drive failure. Drives predicting failure within the warranty period are eligible for replacement, before failure, at IBM's expense. S.M.A.R.T. is compatible with IBM S.M.A.R.T. Reaction software that can perform unattended backup of customer data from the drives before failure.
These new drives benefit from a drive quality, reliability, compatibility, and testing program that is second to none. IBM installs and tests millions of HDDs. Ongoing quality management in support of our system production provides our options customers with drives continuously selected from among the best quality HDDs available. Offered with a three-year limited warranty, these drives also take on the warranty of the IBM PC system in which they are installed. For many IBM PCs this can entitle these drives to on-site service for up to three years.
NOTE: When referring to hard disk drive capacity MB = 1 million bytes; GB = 1000 million bytes. Actual capacities vary based on different operating environments.
IBM's new line of Ultra160 SCSI hard disk drives (HDDs) offers a broad range of capability. Features of the 9.1GB 10,000 rpm Ultra160 SCSI HDD include:
- 9,100 MB formatted capacities
- 3.0 ms average latency
