Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to modify a purchase order fails with error saying modification is not allowed on first order in IBM Sterling Order Management.
Symptom
Steps to reproduce:
Two different Purchase orders are created for same sales order.
Later line level ShipTo addreses were changed for both purchase orders with different addresses.
Now when one purchase order has completed its lifecycle and then there are modification are performed on other purchase order (like change quantity or order cancellation), then it fails with error saying modification is not allowed on first order.
Cause
Modification of order is not allowed as per modification rules.
Diagnosing The Problem
When Purchase orders are created for sales order(i.e. Purchase order is linked with sales order), then line level ShipTo address are propagated to associated purchase order. And line level ShipTo address are same for Sales order line and purchase order line. However, in the above scenario, updating the ShipTo addresses directly at purchase orders caused those addresses to be different. Hence when second order is updated, product find the differences and tries to synchronize the addresses by updating the first purchase order. But it errors out as modification is not allowed as per modification rules.
Resolving The Problem
Once the purchase orders are created for specific sales order (i.e. purchase order is linked with sales order) and change/modification such as line level ShipTo address should be done at sales order. Product automatically propagates it to purchase order and the line level ShipTo address of purchase order is also updated accordingly.
This will ensure that associated fields of purchase order and sales order are in sync and such errors are not faced.
