How non-silent notifications work
When you enable non-silent notifications, iOS delivers notifications to the Secure Mail app. These notifications are delivered even though the Secure Mail app is not running in the background or the device is locked.
Prerequisites
- MaaS360 for iOS app version 5.40+
- Secure Mail app
Note: Notification sound support will be added soon.
The Secure Mail app receives non-silent notifications for the following Inbox activities:
- New mail
- Sent mail
- New calendar meeting request
- Meeting update
- Meeting cancellation
- Meeting reminders
- To-do reminders
Advantages of using non-silent notifications:
The non-silent notifications offer the following benefits over silent push notifications:
- Notifications are delivered without any delays.
- Notifications are encrypted when they are sent to the APNS server.
- Notifications are always displayed regardless of whether the app is running in the background.
Enabling non-silent notifications in the MaaS360 Portal
- From the MaaS360 Portal Home page, navigate to Security > Policies.
- Open a WorkPlace Persona policy.
- Navigate to Email > Configuration.
- In the Configure Secure Mail section, select the Enable Subscription-Based Notifications checkbox.
How notifications are displayed on the device
Non-silent notifications do not display additional information such as sender, subject, or preview. A common title and message are displayed for all notifications.
