Cognos Analytics cannot create the connection with the Oracle Database Server: XQE-GEN-0002 An unexpected exception occurred: oracle.dms.console.DMSConsole

Troubleshooting

Problem

Cognos Analytics failed to create the Data server connection with the Oracle database with an error XQE-GEN-0002 An unexpected exception occurred: oracle.dms.console.DMSConsole

Symptom

JDBC-DQM connection fail: XQE-GEN-0002 An unexpected exception occurred: oracle.dms.console.DMSConsole

Cause

The error is caused by an incorrect Oracle JDBC (ojdbc) connection or a missing .jar file.
Dynamic query mode provides communication to data sources using Java/XMLA connections.

For supported relational databases, a type 4 JDBC connection is required. A type 4 JDBC driver converts JDBC calls directly into the vendor-specific database protocol. It is written in pure Java and is platform-independent.

Environment

Cognos Analytics 11.x with Oracle database server

Diagnosing The Problem

The use of install_location\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib for JDBC drivers is not supported. (This was Old Cognos BI JDBC driver location)

Resolving The Problem

Ensure that JDBC drivers are in the correct location

For the IBM® Cognos® Analytics 11.1.x release, the JDBC drivers must be copied to the install_location\drivers directory.

Only one specific version .jar file exist in the drivers folder (ojdbc6.jar or ojdbc7.jar, this is depending on Oracle database version)
