Problem
When using VMware vCenter 6.5 to deploy the IBM API Connect OVA, the deployment fails with the following message.
OVF package with compressed disks is currently not supported for OVF import.
Cause
The VMware release notes indicate that this is a known VMware problem. However, the suggested workaround still leads to an unsuccessful deployment.
Resolving The Problem
The IBM API Connect OVAs can be successfully deployed in two other ways.
- An OVA can be deployed to VMware ESXi using the web client directly to the ESXi server, bypassing the vSphere server.
- ovftool can be used to deploy the API Connect Management OVA to the 6.5 vSphere server.
Example command:
