Connection to MS SQL Server (Windows authentication) fails with IPFTEST-006

Troubleshooting


Problem

When setting up Cognos and trying to connect to a MS SQL windows authentication database, the test fails with [ ERROR ] IPFTEST-006 Content Manager failed to connect to Database.

Environment

Content store is MS SQL Server (Windows Authentication)

Resolving The Problem

When changing the configuration to use SQL Server (Windows Authentication), Cognos Configuration was unable to connect to the database and therefore failed to start.
The service may still be using the default “Log On As” credentials in services.msc
Changing the services.msc “Log On As” credentials to the Active Directory account, Cognos Configuration was able to connect and start Cognos successfully.
