Problem

When attempting to start the Cognos service on a virtual server and Dynamic Memory is enabled, Cognos fails to start...

[ ERROR ] Failed to launch a test JVM with the current memory setting.
Details from the JVM :
JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9gc28(5): Failed to allocate default memory space
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

Virtual machine with dynamic memory enabled

Resolving The Problem

According to the IBM Cognos VMware Configuration Recommendations document, IBM recommends dedicated\entitled Cores\CPU, RAM, and Disk to the Cognos servers via a Resource Pool. All Cognos servers should be isolated to its own Resource Pool;
The solution is to disable dynamic memory on the virtual system and set up preallocated maximum memory
