Symptom

The system clock loses time (slows down) on a single processor system configured with Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives under Red Hat Enterprise Linux, version 3, update 3.
 
Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM IntelliStations:

  • an IntelliStation Z Pro, type 6223, any model
  • an IntelliStation Z Pro, type 6227, any model

The following network operating system is affected:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux, version 3, update 3
     
    Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software. Click here for more information on compatibility.
Solution

None.

Workaround

Change Native Mode Operation to Serial ATA

Changing Native Mode Operation
  1. Press F1 to access the Configuration/Setup utility program. Click here for more information on Configuration/Setup Utility program - Servers
  2. Select Devices and I/O Ports.
  3. Select Native Mode operation.
  4. Change the Native Mode operation setting from from Auto to Serial ATA
  5. Save and exit the Configuration/Setup utility program.
  6. Reboot the system.
