Symptom
When booting IBM ServerGuide on an IBM eServer xSeries 440 or 445 with either a USB mouse and/or keyboard, the USB device will not work properly, and the ServerGuide configuration and installation can not be completed successfully. You will not be able to interact with the ServerGuide graphical user interface (GUI). The mouse pointer will not move, and the keyboard is not responsive.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM eServers:
- an IBM eServer xSeries 445, type 8870, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 440, type 8687, any model.
The system is configured with a USB mouse and/or keyboard.
Solution
An additional USB device driver needs to be loaded in the ServerGuide boot environment. This required USB device driver will be included and loaded in the next release of ServerGuide 7.2.02. The target date for the release is scheduled for: March, 2004. It will be available from the ServerGuide Electronic fulfillment web site - at the following URL: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/management/serverguide/sub.html
Workaround
Use standard mouse and PS/2 keyboard during the ServerGuide configuration/installation.
Additional information
The USB subsystem on the xSeries 440 and 445 is different from the other USB subsystems found on the rest of the ServerGuide supported servers. This subsystem requires a different USB device driver to be loaded in the ServerGuide boot environment in order to work properly. This device driver will be loaded in future releases of ServerGuide version 7.x.
