Symptom

Systems configured with the Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) experience non-maskable interrupts (NMI).

Affected configuration

The system may be any of the following IBM eserver xSeries servers:

  • An xSeries 220, type 8645, any model
  • An xSeries 220, type 8646, any model

The system is configured with the Remote Supervisor Adapter, option part number 09N7585, replacement part number (FRU) 36L9912.

The following network operating systems (NOS) are affected:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, with any Service Pack applied
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, with any Service Pack applied
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, with any Service Pack applied
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, with any Service Pack applied

The ibmcomw.sys device driver for the Remote Supervisor Adapter is affected.

Solution
  • The behavior described in this document will be corrected in a future release of ibmcomw.sys.
  • The target date for the release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2002.
Workaround

Disable the ibmcomw.sys driver in Hardware Manager.
