Supported Server: IBM® System x3400 Types 7975 and 7976

Follow the instructions in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term select is used to denote the use of arrow keys, the Tab key, Alt + a letter combination, or the mouse to make a selection.

References to optional hardware in this document do not imply support of that hardware. For information about supported options, see the ServerProven® information for your server at http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/.

1.0 What you will need

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• A registered copy of Novell NetWare 6.5 support Pack 6 overlay operating system and product CDs.
• Supported hard disk drives. Go to http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.
• One blank diskette to create a BIOS code update diskette. You might need additional blank diskettes for firmware updates.
• If you are using an IBM ServeRAID™ adapter, you need the IBM ServeRAID Support CD.

3.0 Preparing the hardware

To prepare the hardware, update system firmware, and configure arrays, refer to the Installation Guide - IBM System x3400 (Types 7973, 7974, 7975 and 7976) located at the IBM Support Web site.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions

4.1 Installing Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6

To install Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6, complete the following steps:

1. Turn on the server and insert the Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6 operating system CD into the CD drive.
2. Follow the detailed instruction in the Novell Guide located at http://www.novell.com/documentation/oes/install-nw/index.html?page=/documentation/oes/install-nw/data/hz8pck9v.html to install Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6.

Notes:

1. To install Novell NetWare 6.5, at least one network adapter must be configured during the installation.
2. In the non-GUI portion of the installation, the Up Arrow key and Down Arrow key can be used to move between screen elements and the Space Bar can be used to toggle a highlighted selection.
