At a Glance
The new Digital Data Storage Generation 5 tape drive offers a cost-effective solution for IBM eServer xSeries server customers. This sinle drive tape has 36 GB(1) drive capacity, up to 72 GB in compression. The Digital Data Storage Generation 5 tape drive compliments the IBM eServer xSeries server line. This tape drive is reliable as an internal installation or as a table top mount tape unit. It uses an xSeries enclosure that supports Ultra2 low-voltage differential (LVD) SCSI connections of up to 80 MB/s(2). It provides convenience and ease-of-use features, while supporting high-speed tape backup.
Normally reserved for more expensive tape drives, IBM offers the following features as standard on the new DDS Generation 5 tape drive:
- Up to 3.5/7.0 MB/s transfer rate
- Up to 36/72 GB capacity
- SCSI interface o Expanded buffer memory
- Error rate optimization verification across all media type
- Streaming operation
- Backward read/write capability to DDS 4 and DDS 3 tape drive media 1
- Three-year limited warranty (3)
Notes:
- When referring to tape drive capacity, GB stands for one thousand million bytes and TB stands for one trillion bytes. Total user-accessible capacity may vary depending on operating environments.
- Based on using onboard hardware data compression feature and assuming a 2:1 compression ratio. Data compression is dependent on many factors and is often less than stated.
