General Information
For a high performance, high capacity tape backup product you will want to consider the IBM 35/70 GB Internal DLT Tape Drive. In addition to high performance and capacity, this tape drive is a high-reliability tape backup solution for high-end server computer systems. The IBM 35/70GB Internal DLT Tape Drive features 35GB native capacity and a backup rate of up to 5 MB/s. With the use of hardware-controlled data compression, the drive capacity can be increased to 70GB, and the backup rate can be raised as high as 10 MB/s. This is equivalent to 36GB/hr. The drive uses the DLT IV 1,700-ft Data Cartridge from IBM or Quantum. The 35/70GB tape drive provides the high-capacity, high-performance backup solution required by today's high-end servers.

Note: When referring to tape drive capacity MB = 1 million bytes; GB = 1,000 million bytes. Actual capacities vary based on different operating environments.

Hardware Requirements for IBM systems
The IBM 35/70GB Internal DLT Tape Drive is supported on the following IBM platforms:
  • PC Server 704 (8650-4BW, 7AX, 4M0)
  • PC Server 704 (8650-5M0, 6MM)
  • Netfinity 5100 (8658)
  • Netfinity 5600 (8664)
  • IBM xSeries 230 (8658)
  • IBM xSeries 240 (8664)

Hardware Requirements for Non-IBM systems
IBM has qualified the DLT 35/70GB Internal DLT Tape Drive only for the IBM Server 704 family of systems. The 35/70GB drive is 5.25" FH form factor but does include extra length. Consequently, most non-IBM systems would only be able to attach the 35/70GB drive in an external SCSI enclosure.

Software Requirements
The Seagate Backup Exec V6.11 for Windows NT and Seagate Backup Exec V7.11 for NetWare tape backup software applications are included with the option.

Note : Hardware device support is continuously updated by OEM software suppliers. Check the IBM Server Compatibility webpage at " http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ ", for updates as they occur, or check with the provider of your software.

Compatibility
The 35/70GB Tape Drive is compatible with the IBM 16-Bit PCI Ultra SCSI Adapter (76H3579) and the IBM Ultra SCSI-3 PCI Adapter (76H5407) in most configurations.

Limitations
Some configurations may not be supported.
