Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote outline steps on how to troubleshoot referenced memory errors that occur during IBM® Rational® ClearCase® operations on Microsoft® Windows®.
Symptom
Application popup errors such as those displayed below are reported when performing various ClearCase operations:
Application popup: clearexplorer.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x0136f414" referenced memory at "0x013849b8". The memory could not be "read".
Application popup: clearfsimport.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x77f8f281" referenced memory at "0x003a005d". The memory could not be "written".
Application popup: cleartool.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x77f8f281" referenced memory at "0x003a005d". The memory could not be "written".
Note: The executable referenced in the error (clearexplorer.exe) can pertain to any ClearCase program.
Cause
Memory reference errors on Windows can be attributed to a variety of different problems.
The most common problem support encounters are application conflicts, where one or more programs are vying for the same referenced space in memory causing an access violation resulting in the application error as seen above.
The only way to troubleshoot these errors is to collect memory dumps and have Rational Client Support analyze the output to see what occurs on the stack trace to identify the problem.
Resolving The Problem
Below is a list of known products that conflict with ClearCase and cause referenced memory errors. If you find that the solutions below do not work or are not related to your setup, follow the instructions in technote 1149985 to capture the required output for analysis.
Look for a product called New.net (newdotnet) installed on the system.
- Look in the following registry key for something that says newdotnet....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
1. Uninstall the New.net (Newdotnet) product in the Add/Remove Programs.
2. Restart.
Use this url, for more information on the removal of New.net.
Security Platform
Information leakage protection software "Security Platform" by Humming HEADS http://www.hummingheads.co.jp/ (requires translation from Japanese)
