This document describes how to download installation images for IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments Version 8.1.7.

Maintenance Packages via PTF Distribution Web Site

All IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 8.1.7 maintenance packages can be accessed using the PTF distribution Web site.
However, these PTF packages require an existing V8.1.x installation on the machine before applying them because the PTF maintenance packages do not contain the license enablement files required for use of the component. If this is your initial installation of a IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments component on a machine or VM, you should obtain your packages, with the associated license enablement files, from the Passport Advantage Online Web site.

The Passport Advantage Online Web site has complete images of IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 8.1.6 for download. The HTTP link in the section "Download package" directs to the Passport Advantage Online Web site.

Download Package

The HTTP link in the Download Options column below directs you to the Passport Advantage Online Web site. Passport Advantage is a secure Web site that requires an account ID and password. It has all of the component and platform images associated with IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 8.1.6 available for download.

You can locate images on the Passport Advantage Online Web site by using the part number as the search query. For example to locate the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware use as search query CNZ5XML for Windows and use CNZ5YML for Linux.

The FTP link in the Download Options column provided below is to the top level directory that contains this Fix Pack. The subdirectory structure separates the Fix Pack images by operating system platform, then by available Fix Pack version.

Reminder: These images available via the Data Protection for VMware Maintenance Packages link do not contain license enablement files. You must already have a base level package installed in order to use these packages.

About vulnerabilities that have been identified in IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API:

The IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API are used as components of Data Protection for VMware. The IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client also known as Data Mover is a separate prerequisite and is included as a convenience in the Data Protection for VMware installation package. The IBM Spectrum Protect Client API is also a prerequisite of Data Protection for VMware and is installed as a part of the default Data Protection for VMware installation process. Be aware that all Data Protection for VMware functional components must be at the same Fix Pack level. Within a given Fix Pack level, the interim fix level can differ.

Instructions to replace IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API on system where Data Protection for VMware is installed within a Fix Pack level:

If the IBM Spectrum Protect Client (data mover) is installed on this system, its possible to upgrade the Data Mover by installing the new IBM Spectrum Protect Client package. This will update the IBM Spectrum Protect API as well.
If the IBM Spectrum Protect Client (data mover) is not installed on this system (for example if only GUI is installed):
- On a Linux system its possible to upgrade the IBM Spectrum Protect API by installing the new API package
- On a Windows system its necessary to install the IBM Spectrum Protect Client package which installs automatically the new API package
