IBM Support

Support for location based policies for offline devices and WiFi Proxy

Release Notes

Abstract

Support for location based policies for offline devices and WiFi Proxy

Content

MaaS360 extends the location based policy support to offline devices. When the device is online, MaaS360 agent automatically downloads all the policies and locations that are assigned to the device. When the device checks into the defined location, an appropriate policy is applied even though the device is offline.

Support for Wi-Fi Proxy

Certain organizations only expose internet connectivity through a proxy in their corporate WiFi. URL filtering and other security filters are applied at the proxy level so that devices don't connect to malicious or dangerous servers. For such customers, adding support for WiFi proxy is essential for the app to function.

MaaS360 adds a new policy to configure Wi-Fi proxy on Samsung devices. With this feature, the administrators can allow/restrict devices in a network to connect to internet through another device that acts as a proxy server.

All apps respect this WiFi proxy (i.e. all network traffic goes through the proxy). and can add the exclusion to the proxy list.

Note: This feature is supported only on Samsung devices with SAFE 5.5+, and Android Enterprise(O+ devices).

To configure Wi-Fi proxy,

1. Navigate to Security Policies > Android MDM policy > Device Settings > Wi-Fi and select Configure Wi-Fi Proxy.

2. Provide the following details.

  • Proxy Type: Specifies the type of Wi-Fi proxy configuration, Manual and Automatic.
  • Proxy Server: Specifies the name of the proxy server to which the devices must be connected.
  • Port for Proxy Server: Specifies the port number through which the devices connect to proxy server.
  • Exclusion List: The list of host names for which the proxy connection is excluded.
  • PAC File URL: Available only if Proxy Type is Automatic. Automatic set up needs url for configuration file (pac file) which contains script listing credentials for proxy server. Allows the devices to connect only when the proxy auto configuration file is available. Note: Users must provide the file in a location from where it can be downloaded.
