Dragging maps into dashboard does not load map

Troubleshooting


Problem

When dragging a map into a dashboard the map area is blank. The frame will be visible, but the contents empty. If you open developer tools on the browser you will see an error similar to this: "Error: Invalid mapbox token specified at D. <anonymous>."

Symptom

Map does not appear on the dashboard

Cause

In this case the cause was that the file metadata_mapbox.xml was missing from the install. The file is located in the following location: <cognos_install>\configuration\metadata

Environment

In this case the environment was Cognos 11.0.11 installed on Linux on IBM z.

Diagnosing The Problem

  • Using the developer tools (F12 for IE) that are available with most browsers helped diagnose the problem
  • A Fiddler trace may also have revealed the error

Resolving The Problem

This file comes with the install, it appears that it was not installed correctly with the initial install of the product
