Unable to drag geocoded package data into map visualization on dashboard

Troubleshooting

Problem

When trying to add geocoded data from custom data packages made in Framework Manager into the 'Latitude' and 'Longitude' boxes of a map visualization in Cognos Analytics, the data cannot be added to the boxes and cannot be used in the visualization. The database is an SQL database and the geocodes consist of values of latitude and longitude of addresses in the database.

Cause

The problem is the lack of taxonomy details in FM packages which will help us determine if the Longtitude/Latitude columns are geodata. Cognos cannot recognize these values as geocode and shows them as measures. There are several workarounds to this that should allow the user to use custom data packages in map visualizations in Cognos Analytics.

Check the datatypes of the 'Latitude' and 'Longitude' columns in the SQL Server Manager.

Check the attributes of the custom data packages in Framework Manager. The correct values must be set to both in order for the data packages to be used as geocodes.

Resolving The Problem

The following steps should allow the user to use data packages made in Framework Manager using custom 'Latitude' and 'Longitude' values stored in an SQL database. Make sure that all values of latitude and longitude in your database are all valid. Then perform the following:

1. Set the datatypes for the 'Latitude' and 'Longitude' to 'float' in SQL Server Manager.

2. Set the usage types of the data packages to 'attribute' not 'fact' in Framework Manager.

3. Publish the packages to Cognos via Framework Manager.

4. If the above steps do not work, create a data-set from the package.
