Expected behavior of Guardium Hosts configuration for S-TAP

Question & Answer

Question

I am changing the order of Guardium Hosts in the S-TAP Control page in Guardium GUI.

What is the expected behavior of the GUI on this page?

Answer

S-TAP Host order can be changed from the GUI from Manage > Activity Monitoring > S-TAP Control. The configuration can be modified by pressing the pencil icon:

1. Consider this S-TAP with two Guardium hosts:

Vmguard1 is the primary host, indicated by the 'Active' flag and that it is first in the list. Vmguard2 is second in the list and has the green 'set primary' button next to it.

2. Now press the down arrow to move vmguard1 to the bottom of the list. It appears like this:

Vmguard1 is now below vmguard2, but it still says active and has the set primary button next to it. This is expected. Vmguard2 has been moved to the primary host in GUI, but no change has taken place on the S-TAP side yet. The change does not appear in GUI until the configuration is applied and S-TAP control is refreshed. These steps are required to ensure the changes are successfully saved on the S-TAP before further changes are made.

3. Apply the configuration and refresh the S-TAP Control page. Open the configuration again and it appears as:

Vmguard2 is now the primary host and the active and set primary buttons are as normal.
