IBM Support

Line getting backordered even if there is onhand quantity available for fulfillment

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to run scheduleOrder backorders the transfer order even if there is onhand quantity available for fulfillment in IBM Sterling Order Management.

Symptom

Steps to replicate:

  1. Adjust inventory for an item in 2 stores , say store 16 = 5 qty and store 46 = 5 qty.

  2. Create a PICK order with qty 8 and pickup location as store 16.

  3. Schedule the order (5 qty released to store 16, Transfer Order (TO) is created for 3 qty)

  4. Schedule and release the TO

  5. Adjust inventory again for the same item, say store 16 = 5 qty and store 46 = 3qty

  6. Create another PICK order with same item+qty (ordered qty 8) and pickup location as 16

  7. Schedule the order and on schedule, 5 qty is fulfilled from store 46, 2 qty from store 16 and 1 qty is back ordered.

Cause

This is working as designed.

Diagnosing The Problem

During the release of the second order, the PO_RELEASED supply from the transfer order is not being considered by the DEMAND_FOR_RELEASE demand from the second order because this is not marked in the inventory considerations screen.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve, check the box at the intersection of the "Demand to look for during release" demand type and "Purchase Order Released" supply type.
