Changes to the COSU Kiosk mode settings in the Android Enterprise MDM policy

Abstract

MaaS360 enhances the COSU Kiosk mode settings in the Android Enterprise MDM policy to introduce the Android custom launch feature.
The Android custom intent feature allows administrators to preconfigure settings and create custom workflows and buttons to launch only specific parts of the Settings app on an Android device in Kiosk mode.

What's new in the COSU Kiosk mode settings in the Android Enterprise MDM policy

The COSU(Corporate Owned Single Use) Kiosk Mode settings has been introduced with a new section called Kiosk Device Settings which includes the following policy settings:
  • Show custom Wi-Fi settings: The Wi-Fi settings previously found in the Kiosk Launcher Settings section has been renamed and moved to this new section. The behavior of this setting remains the same. If the Wi-Fi settings was enabled previously, this setting will also be enabled in the policy.
  • Show custom Bluetooth settings: The Bluetooth settings previously found in the Kiosk Launcher Settings section has been renamed and moved to this new section. The behavior of this setting remains the same. If the Bluetooth settings was enabled previously, this setting will also be enabled in the policy.
  • Show settings provided by device manufacturers: This setting is newly introduced. If turned on, only the settings specified by device manufacturers in the Kiosk Launcher settings will be shown on the device.

    Note: Enabling this setting may allow users to navigate to other relevant sections related to this setting on the Android device.

  • Add custom launch item: This setting is newly introduced. If turned on, you can add custom launch items using the Android custom intent feature. For more information on Android custom intent feature, see About Android custom intent.

What's new in the Android agent device in Kiosk mode
Change 1:
  1. Tap the Settings icon on the Kiosk Launcher app on the Android device in Kiosk mode.

    The Menu lists the Device Settings item only if the following conditions are met:

  • Device Settings

    • Device Settings-System: This section is shown in the Device Settings only if the administrator has configured any of the following settings in Android Enterprise MDM policy > COSU Kiosk Mode > Kiosk Device Settings > Show settings provided by device manufacturers.

      •  Accessibility
      •  Biometrics and Passcode
      •  Bluetooth
      •  Location
      •  NFC
    • Device Settings-MaaS360: This section is shown in the Device Settings only if the administrator has configured MaaS360 custom UI for any of the following settings to show only the necessary options in these settings. 
      •  Bluetooth
      •  Brightness
      •  Wallpaper
      •  Wi-Fi
Change 2:
If the administrator has configured a custom launch item, it will appear in the menu list under either the Device Settings or Other Shortcuts section on the Android device, depending on the item location selected by the user.
