Is it possible to use an existing network file share for attached documents?

Question & Answer

Question

For Attached documents in Maximo Manage, you may wonder about the possibility to have the Manage pods connect directly to the existing network file share like before so that you don't have to migrate so many documents from the existing Maximo 7.6 environment storage.

Answer

There is a security concern that needs to be taken into consideration here. Maximo Manage leverages Kubernetes for container orchestration. Granting direct access to a network file share from pods within the cluster can introduce security vulnerabilities. Network file shares can become bottlenecks as the volume of data and number of users accessing them increase. This could impact performance in a containerized environment like Maximo Manage. Also, the Network file shares don't offer the version control capabilities that Maximo Manage's built-in storage options provide.
However, there are alternative solutions to consider:
While time-consuming, migrating the existing documents to your new cluster storage is the recommended approach. This ensures optimal performance, security, and version control within Maximo Manage.
Maximo Manage supports other storage options beyond the default persistent volume (PV).

You could investigate Object Storage solutions like Amazon S3 or cloud-based file storage services for scalability and easier accessibility.
