Possible dump capture failure to FC-based dump target when the Firmware-assisted dump (FADump) is configured

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

In FADump method, there is a possibility that the dump capture fails when the dump target is an FC-based adapter and is used in the operation.

Content

Linux Releases Affected
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.10
IBM Systems Affected
IBM Power systems with Marvell Qlogic FC adapters that have EN2L or EN2M feature codes.
Symptoms
In FADump method, the dump capture can fail when the dump target is an FC-based adapter. The dump
capture fails with similar logs as shown in the the following example:
[ 164.672251] mount[1602]: mount.nfs: Network is unreachable
[ 164.673035] systemd[1]: kdumproot.mount: Mount process exited, code=exited status=32
[ 164.673340] systemd[1]: kdumproot.mount: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
[ 164.673607] systemd[1]: Failed to mount /kdumproot.
See 'systemctl status kdumproot.mount' for details.
The root cause of this issue is rigorous restriction of driver resources in the dump capture environment.
Workaround
Currently there is no workaround for this issue.
