Error description

  • During a VM restore operation with Spectrum Copy Data Management
(SCDM) on a VMware clustered environment, the restore is failing
    with error:

    ERROR,1663322577030,Fri 16 Sep 2022 10:02:57 UTC,2,No
destination ESX host found for datastore (<DS_Name>). Specify a
destination ESX host or cluster in the job policy.
    ERROR,1663322577030,Fri 16 Sep 2022 10:02:57 UTC,2,No selected
    item is recoverable.

This condition is triggered if a VMware ESXi cluster host is
temporarily removed from the cluster, and re-registered with an
IP address vs. a host name (or vice versa). The restore logic
fails to match the original hostname from the Catalog metadata
    with the new entry.

Affected versions: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 2.2.16

Problem conclusion

  • IBM Spectrum Copy Data Management has been enhanced to handle
conditions if a VMware ESXi cluster host is temporarily removed
from a cluster, and re-registered with an IP address vs. a host
name (or vice versa). The restore functionality now matches the
original hostname from the Catalog with the new entry.
