APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When upgrading the Red Hat operating system (OS) on the vSnap/
    VADP server by using the ISO file provided for IBM Storage
    Protect
    Plus server,  rel. 10.1.16 (spp_with_os_10.1.16-330.iso), the OS
    
    
    upgrade is failing.
    At the installation log the following issues can be seen:
    
    Problem 1: cannot install the best update candidate for package
                        libsmbclient-4.15.5-5.el8.x86_64
    -nothing provides libcli-smb-common-samba4.so(SAMBA_4.18.6
     _SAMBA4)(64bit) needed by libsmbclient-4.18.6-2.el8_9.x86_64
    -nothing provides libdcerpc-samba-samba4.so(SAMBA_4.18.6
     _SAMBA4)(64bit) needed by libsmbclient-4.18.6-2.el8_9.x86_64
    .....
    -nothing provides samba-common-libs = 4.18.6-2.el8_9
     needed by libsmbclient-4.18.6-2.el8_9.x86_64
    
    Problem 2: cannot install both libtalloc-2.4.0-3.el8.x86_64
                        and libtalloc-2.3.3-1.el8.x86_64
    -package python3-talloc-2.3.3-1.el8.x86_64 requires libtalloc
      = 2.3.3-1.el8, but none of the providers can be installed
    -cannot install the best update candidate for package
      libtalloc-2.3.3-1.el8.x86_64
    -problem with installed package python3-talloc-
      2.3.3-1.el8.x86_64

Problem conclusion

  • In IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16, the vSnap upgrade ISO was
    missing required packages, causing upgrades to fail (with
    dependency or missing package errors). The missing packages have
    been included in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16.1 and
    10.1.17.
    

Temporary fix

  • Manually install the missing packages using Yum.
