APAR status

Error description

  • Selecting cleanup of a test VMware restore from cloud snapshot
    can cause the vsnap server to go into a hung state which
    requires a reboot.

    Below is the last message seen in the kernel messages file on
    the vsnap server.  No other log messages are generated after
    this one due to the kernel hang.

Local fix

  • 1) Reboot the vsnap server to clear the kernel hang.
    2) Run the command below on the vsnap server CLI.
      > vsnap system pref set --name cloudPoolExportAttemptUnforced
    --value true
    
    3) Select to cleanup the test VMware restore job in the SPP
    portal.

Problem conclusion

  • Before IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16.1 and 10.1.17, a single
    vSnap preference was used to determine whether to an unforced
    export the ZFS pool when cleaning up both an offload and a
    restore. In IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16.1 and 10.1.17, a
    new preference has been introduced for the restore (with a
    default value of enabled), enabling restore cleanups to perform
    an unforced export by default.
