IBM AIX HowTo: Step by step instructions to unblock a port when using IPsec and IPfilter rules.

Summary

This document is intended for system administrators with systems that have AIXpert with
IP security enabled and required this feature to be disabled. Use these step-by-step instructions using SMIT
(smitty command) to manage port blocking and IP security (IPsec) filter rules.

Environment

Steps

Login into the system using an account with "system" authority (LPAR) or padmin (VIOS) where the ports need to be unblocked and rules removed. 

1. Access SMIT IPsec menu:

# smit ipsec4

2. From the menu, select these options:
  • Advanced IP Security Configuration
  • Configure IP Security Filter Rules
  • Delete IP Security Filter Rules

3. Select the rules to be removed from the "Filter Configuration" menu at the bottom of the screen.
Move the cursor to desired item and press Enter to delete it.
Use arrow keys to scroll.

4. Press F3 to exit the "Filter Configuration" menu.
5. Press F3 to exit the "Configure IP Security Filter Rules" and return to "Advanced IP Security Configuration" menu.
6. Select "Activate/Update/Deactivate IP Security Filter Rule" to confirm desired rules were removed.
7. Once all the needed rules have been confirmed to be removed, press F10 to exit SMIT.
