Error description

  • After upgrading vSnap server OS to RedHat 8.x, the user is able
to do the archive offload copy to cloud, and new restore points
are visible from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus GUI.

However, the old restore points or snapshots that restored on
cloud device are gone from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus GUI.
The customer confirmed the old snapshots are still present on
    cloud device.

The vSnap log collect shows there are multiple cloud IDs
    generated.

The snapshots associated with old cloud IDs are invisible from
    SPP GUI.

This occurs when SP certificate is updated during a major OS
    upgrade.

IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.11 and 10.1.12
Additional Keywords: SPPLUS, TS012529237, cloud, restore point,
    SPPOffload

Local fix

  • Restore of old restore points needs to be done manually on the
vSnap instead of the in the UI.

Problem conclusion

  • In previous versions of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, when the
uploading of a HeadObject failed during a cloud or archive job,
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus interpreted this failure as the object
not existing and created a new partner ID. This caused existing
offload data to become orphaned (unreachable on the User
Interface, UI). IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.15.1 and 10.1.16
instead fail the job session without making any changes to the
existing partner IDs, fixing the partner ID bug.
