IBM Storage Scale: Native Rest API feature is available as Technical Preview in Storage Scale 5.1.9.0

News

Abstract

The Native Rest API feature is available as a Technical Preview feature in 5.1.9 release.

Content

Overview:
The Native Rest API feature introduces a new control plane component to the Storage Scale Stack to administer Scale clusters. Using the Native Rest API eliminates the need to administer Scale clusters with the mm-command layer. This feature introduces a few security enhancements:
  • Eliminates the need for passwordless SSH
  • Introduces Role Based Access Control to the Scale control plane
  • Allows administration of Scale by unprivileged users
  • Allows remote administration of Storage Scale cluster
For the 5.1.9 release Tech Preview, the available functionality in the Rest API is only a small subset of the overall functionality that is available via mm-commands, but the intent is to port over functionality in phases. The Native Rest API component must not be used in production environments during the Technical Preview; it is intended for test environments only. Also, review the restrictions and known issues section.
For instructions on enabling and running the Native Rest API feature, please sign up for the Technical preview by contacting scale@us.ibm.com.
Restrictions:
  • Only RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 Operating Systems are supported for x86_64
  • Cluster Size must be restricted to 4 nodes
  • SElinux is not supported.
  • IPV6 is not supported.
