Changes in the ClearCase startup script

Question & Answer

Question

What are the changes in the ClearCase startup script?

Cause

The ClearCase startup script has now full compatibility with systemd, and, because of that, some behavioral changes were introduced.

Answer

The ClearCase startup script output is now handled by the systemd log facility. When using the startup script "/opt/rational/clearcase/etc/clearcase" to start or stop ClearCase, the messages produced by the script will be preceded by a timestamp, hostname, process name, and PID, for example:
# /opt/rational/clearcase/etc/clearcase start
Oct 01 16:32:42 myhost systemd[1]: Starting Start ClearCase services...
Oct 01 16:32:42 myhost clearcase.systemd[2022869]: ClearCase is stopped
Oct 01 16:32:42 myhost clearcase.systemd[2022869]: Starting ClearCase
Oct 01 16:32:42 myhost clearcase.systemd[2022869]: ClearCase daemons: albd_server
Oct 01 16:32:43 myhost clearcase.systemd[2022869]: Mounting public VOBs...
Oct 01 16:32:43 myhost clearcase.systemd[2022869]: ClearCase is started
Oct 01 16:32:43 myhost systemd[1]: Started Start ClearCase services.
If you try to start ClearCase but it has already started, or if you try to stop it when it is already stopped, it will show "-- No entries --", for example:
# /opt/rational/clearcase/etc/clearcase start
-- No entries --
