Error description

  • The upgrade process of the Accelerator on IIAS starts with the
download of the upgrade packages from IBM FixCentral and
comprises a couple of other steps, one of which is the transfer
of the package to the transfer folder on the accelerator. The
step to copy the package to the transfer folder is immediately
followed by the validation of the package and by a preliminary
    hardware-check.

With the upgrade to Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.10 or
later, the hardware-check includes a verification of the Flash
Storage Nodes (FSN) which leads to a longer runtime.
The accelerator verifies whether the hardware-check will be done
within the limit having been defined by parameter
    APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT in configuration file
dwaserver.conf. The default value is 15 minutes (or 900
    seconds).
If this limit will be exceeded, the message
"AQT20107E - The component responsible for software updates did
not finish the execution of the command 'apupgrade
--preliminary-check' within the timeout period of 900 seconds."
will be raised. In parallel, the upgrade package will be be
removed from the transfer folder on the accelerator.

With Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.12 or later, the default
    value configuration parameter
APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT will be set to 30 minutes.
Attention: this new default value will only influence upgrades
    to maintenance levels following 7.5.12.
Therefore we strongly recommend to have IBM support change
    configuration parameter APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT to a
value of 30 minutes at any time PRIOR to transferring an upgrade
package to the accelerator. This change does not require an
outage and will become valid instantly.

Local fix

  • If you are or were affected by a timeout during the transfer of
an upgrade package to the accelerator, please contact IBM
support. In a remote maintenance session the support engineer
will increase the value of dwa configuration parameter
APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT. In such a situation we
recommend to double the parameter's default value of 900
meaning sseconds which equals to 15 minutes) by setting
    "APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT = 30min" in
    dwa.server.conf before redoing the transfer.

Problem summary

  • Problem Summary:
    See Error Description.

    Users Affected:
Administrators of accelerators on IIAS (especially when
    upgrading multi-rack systems).

    Problem Scenario:
The transfer of an upgrade package to the transfer folder on the
accelerator includes a preliminary hardware-check. The default
timeout for this check is 900 seconds which equals to 15
minutes. If the check requires requires more than 900 seconds,
the transferred upgrade package will be deleted from the
transfer folder on the accelerator. Subsequently, another
transfer of the upgrade package is required.

    Problem Symptoms:
Looking at the files apupgrade.log and apupgrade.log.tracelog it
can be seen that the time interval between the command
"apupgrade --preliminary-check ..." and the timeout message
exceeds 900 seconds. Although the preliminary hardware-check is
continued in the apupgrade.log, the accelerator receives a
timeout. He does no longer wait for the successful execution of
the check and removes the upgrade package from the transfer
    folder.

Problem conclusion

  • With Accelerator maintenance level 7.5.12 or later, the default
    value configuration parameter
APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT will be set to 30 minutes.
Attention: this new default value will only influence upgrades
to Accelerator maintenance levels following 7.5.12.

If you are or were affected by a timeout (message AQT20107E)
during the transfer of an upgrade package to the accelerator,
please contact IBM support. In a remote maintenance session the
support engineer will increase the value of the configuration
    parameter APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT. In such a
situation we recommend to double the parameter's default value
of 900 (meaning seconds which equals to 15 minutes) by setting
    "APUPGRADE_COMMAND_EXECUTION_TIMEOUT = 30min" in dwa.server.conf
    before re-doing the transfer.
