Abstract

Download Description

Java 8 Important Information

This upgrade uninstalls the existing IBM Java 7 and installs the latest version of the IBM Java 8 JRE. If any of the Java 7 files were modified since the v8.1 installation, then these modified files are removed during the upgrade process, except for the java.security file. Before you perform the upgrade, back up these modified files to a private location, then after the upgrade reapply the modifications. The Java 8 java.security file has significant differences to the Java 7 java.security file. Review the default Java 8 java.security file and update it to comply with the existing settings in the Java 7 java.security file.

IBM Java 8 does NOT run on some older versions of operating systems, which include the following operating systems:
- AIX 6.1 before Tech Level 9
- Older versions of Linux (due to a GLIBC 2.7 requirement)
- Solaris SPARC 32 bit (IBM Java on Solaris SPARC is 64 bit only)

The following defect solution is included in this release:
8.1.0-TIV-NCOMNIbus-FP0032
DT148986  IJ28793
The GSKit version has been upgraded to GSKit v8.0.55.24. This upgrade addresses potential security issues and adds support for TLS v1.3. See the updated documentation for more details on enabling TLS v1.3 support in Netcool/OMNIbus.
DT258487
To address possible security issues, the JRE for Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus V8.1.0 is updated to IBM JRE 8.0 SR8 FP20.

DT160351
The Process Agent daemon fails to start under systemd if the network is not online when the Process Agent daemon is started.  The network-online.target is added as a requirement to the Process Agent daemon configuration to resolve this.

DT215180
A gateway that processed alerts in 'Fast Track' (FT) mode with a 'FILTER' occasionally encountered a memory violation that halted the flow of data though the gateway. This problem is fixed.

DT228240
Exporting MIBs from MIB Manager could be extremely slow if the MIB files contain a lot of variable binding entries. This problem is fixed.

DT237398
On Linux the ObjectServer logged an incorrect value when the total memory footprint of the ObjectServer process was greater than 4 Gb. The footprint log message is fixed.

DT237906
APAR IV75452 delivered in Netcool/OMNIbus 8.1.0.4, set the limit on the number of transient regular expressions stored internally by the probe to 1000. This limit is now increased to 5000.

DT238465
On Windows Server 2022 nco_confpack failed with error message: 'Unsupported operating system, Windows Server 2022, unable to proceed'. The nco_confpack program is now supported on Windows Server 2022.

DT247538
When editing the configuration of a process for the Process Agent in the Administrator desktop client, the "Run As ID" field had a maximum value of 65535. This value has been increased and the width of the field increased to display the full number.

DT247634
A gateway could become overwhelmed when subscribed to an IDUC FAST TRACK channel where the event feed load is very high.  The gateway then fell behind in reading alerts from the fast-track channel.  This caused messages to back up in the ObjectServer.  The memory of the ObjectServer then continued to grow to accommodate the backed-up messages.
In this fix pack, the out-of-the-box configurations for 2- or 3-tiered deployments are altered so that IDUC FAST TRACK is disabled by default for all uni-directional ObjectServer gateways.  The 'failover' gateway subscription to the FAST TRACK IDUC channel is removed because FAST TRACK IDUC is not recommended for a bi-directional gateway.
These changes reverse the fix for IJ32751 that was released in Omnibus 8.1.0.27.  For existing production systems, update scripts are available at: -
$NCHOME/omnibus/extensions/multitier/update/update81fp26to81fp32
Updates to an existing production system are optional. Refer to the product documentation for more details on how to apply the updates.

DT258413
The out-of-the-box 'new_row' and 'deduplication' triggers are now using the current time, instead of '0', as the default values for both 'LastOccurrence' and 'FirstOccurrence'.  Previously the 'new_row' trigger in a default ObjectServer left the default value for the 'LastOccurrence' field set to '0'. This could result in some alerts with 'FirstOccurrence' > 'LastOccurrence'. This issue would happen when this field is not explicitly populated by the ObjectServer client application.
Existing ObjectServers can be updated via the following script:-
$NCHOME/omnibus/etc/update81fp25to81fp32.sql
The fix is NOT required for ObjectServers (AGG, COL) that were created from the multitier scripts shipped with Omnibus. AGG and COL servers already use the correct default values for 'FirstOccurrence' and 'LastOccurrence'.

Prerequisites

OMNIbus core 8.1 must be installed before this Fixpack can be installed.
Fixpacks are cumulative. The latest Fixpack can be applied to update OMNIbus core to the latest Fixpack version.

Installation Instructions

IMPORTANT: Ensure that all Tivoli Network Management applications on your computer are shut down before you install this fix.
Installation Manager
The latest version of Installation Manager is recommended and can be downloaded from
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27025142
Check the required version of IBM Installation Manager in the IBM Software Product Compatibility Reports at:
 https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity/index.html
Check the Installation Manager and OMNIbus version installed by running the command:

 imcl listInstalledPackages -features -long
It can be found in the following locations:
        Windows: install_dir\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\tools
        Linux and UNIX:  install_dir/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools
Installation Manager can be started in console mode by running the command:

imcl -c
It can be found in the following locations:
        Windows: install_dir\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\tools
        Linux and UNIX: install_dir/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools
Installation Manager can be started in GUI mode by running the application:
IBMIM
It can be found in the following locations:
        Windows: install_dir\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse
        Linux and UNIX: install_dir/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse
At any stage, if you encounter difficulties with Installation Manager, you can consult the built-in help or the latest Installation Manager documentation by searching IBM Documentation at
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/installation-manager.
Using IBM Passport Advantage(r)
If your computer has internet access and you have an IBM Passport Advantage account, you can update packages directly from Passport Advantage.
    1. Start Installation Manager.
    2. Under the Preferences option, select Repositories and make sure the "Search service repositories during installation and updates" is checked.
    3. Select the update option and select the "IBM Tivoli NetcoolcOMNIbus" entry from the list of packages to find updates for.
Local Repository
Extract the Fixpack into a new temporary directory, then specify the repository in the preferences before you update. Each package must be extracted into a new directory.
    1. Start Installation Manager.
    2. Under the Preferences option, select Repositories and add a repository. Give the location of the extracted OMNIbusRepository/composite directory.
    3. Select the update option and select the "IBM Tivoli Netcool OMNIbus" entry from the list of packages to find updates for.
Electronic Software Delivery(ESD) .zip File
If you downloaded the ESD for Fix Pack 32, then:
    1. Create a directory to store the files and extract the contents of the .zip file into this directory.
    2. After you installed Installation Manager either with Administrator or Nonadministrator mode, run the update_gui script to launch Installation Manager into the update panel without the requirement of configuring the update repository.
    3. If the script fails, or Installation Manager is installed in Group mode, or you want to run in console mode, then you must configure the update repository as described in the pervious section, Local Repository. The new repository is the extracted OMNIbusRepository/composite directory.
    4. Select the "IBM Tivoli Netcool OMNIbus" entry from the list of packages to find updates for.
