Error connecting to mail server for email address XXX on mail server outlook.office365.com, when configuring E-mail Listener with Oauth

Question & Answer

Question

What does it mean the error Error connecting to mail server for email address XXX on mail server outlook.office365.com in log file when you configure email Listener with Oauth?

Answer

This error is related to misconfiguration when you follow the steps to configure email Listener with Oauth. There are some reasons that could lead to this error:
1. JavaMail version not supported for Oauth 2.0. Ensure that the version of the JavaMail API that is included in your Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition application server is version 1.5.2 or later (Application Server: IBM WebShpere Application Server 9.0.X). Earlier versions do not support 0Auth 2.0.
2. Bad refresh token. In order to solve this issue, follow strictly the steps mentioned in this technote and check the compatibility between credential values in Azure and script values:

Email Listener OAuth Configuration with Office 365 - Generating a Refresh Token

Note: After you run the script, an authentication window opens and it's required to use the listener account that was configured in Azure previously. Different account generates a bad refresh token. For more information, check the document:

Encountered error processing emails from mail server javax.mail.MessagingException: A3 BAD User is authenticated but not connected, when configuring email Listener with Oauth

3. Certificates not imported. In order to solve this issue, follow strictly the steps mentioned in this technote:
Note: Issues related to certificate are better visualized in SystemErr.log file.
