*Storage slots are virtualized by dynamically associating element addresses to them, as required.
1. The first storage element address of any logical library is equal to 1024 plus the logical library number. For example, logical library 3 has a starting storage element address of 1027.
2. The maximum number of storage slots of any logic library is 1854.  The maximum element address of the last storage slot of any logical library is equal to the first storage element address plus 1583.

Notes:

1. IBM Diamondback Tape Library is supported by IBM Spectrum Protect Sever version 8.1.12 or a subsequent maintenance release

2. Tape Library configurations for the Single-frame library

  • Up to 14 LTO-9 tape drives
  • Up to 1584 LTO cartridge slots
  • Up to 27 PB (up to 69 PB with 2.5:1 compression) capacity with LTO-9 cartridges

3. Barcodes are required

4. Eight character barcodes are required. The last 2 characters must be the media identifier "L#" where # is the tape cartridge generation. For example, ABC456L9 for an LTO-9 cartridge. Without a proper barcode label, a volume will appear as "unknown media"

5. ELEMent=AUTODetect in the DEFINE/UPDATE DRIVE command is supported

6. LTO-9 & LTO-8 tape cartridges are supported

7. IBM Diamondback is available with the following SAS and Fiber Channel drives:

  • LTO-9 support requires IBM Spectrum Protect Server 8.1.12 or a subsequent maintenance release

8. Device identifications and firmware levels used during validation

(Validated with IBM Spectrum Protect Server 8.1.18.00)
      IBM Diamondbck library firmware: 2.10.0.0_029.00
  • Library ID: IBM 03584L32 --- Firmware: 2902
  • Drive ID: IBM ULT3580-TD9 --- Firmware: Q4EF
9. The IBM device driver is required for IBM Libraries and IBM LTO-9 drives. IBM device drivers are available at IBM Fix Central . Choose the following options from the drop-down menus.
  • Product Group -> System Storage
  • System Storage -> Tape systems
  • Tape systems -> Tape drivers and software
  • Tape drivers and software -> Tape device drivers
  • Platform -> Select the device driver OS platform
