Error description

  • MongoDB can spike to 100% CPU utilization when a query spans a
very large data set, such as the job log entries.
These spikes in CPU utilization can be seen during busy job
operations and when the server is in an idle state.
When the MongoDB service is consuming 100% CPU utilization, the
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Portal may become unavailable.
User's will not be able to log into the portal until CPU
    utilization drops.

Affected levels: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.10 and later

Problem conclusion

  • A hint is now provided that guides MongoDB to use the efficient
index. By using the efficient index, MongoDB no longer
inefficiently scans and sorts the large amount of data in the
job log MongoDB collection, which dramatically reduces the
required CPU cycles to complete the query. This ensures that
MongoDB does not use 100% of available CPU resources when
    querying the job log collection.
