Cognos Analytics in IIS redirects to /bi/bi instead of /bi

Troubleshooting


Problem

When using IIS as web server for Cognos Analytics, navigating to the Cognos Analytics URL in the browser appends an extra /bi to the URL. For example, http://www.cognoswebsite.com/ibmcognos/bi/bi

This causes a 404 error on the browser because this is not a valid path. There should only be one /bi at the end of the URL. For example, http://www.cognoswebsite.com/ibmcognos/bi

Cause

URL Rewrite and Application Request Routing not installed in IIS.

Resolving The Problem

Disclaimer: IIS is not an IBM product and is provided by Microsoft. Therefore, IBM cannot assist with any technical issues faced with installation of IIS and the additional software that IIS needs. It is recommended to work with a web server administrator and Microsoft for any issues related to IIS.

The following steps can be taken to overcome this issue without stopping IBM Cognos Services:

  1. Stop IIS and close the IIS window.
  2. Download and install URL Rewrite and ARR from Microsoft's IIS website:
  3. Start IIS again.
  4. Properly clear IIS configurations for Cognos Analytics, including from Cognos folders. Refer to IBM's support page on how to do this: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-properly-clear-microsofts-internet-information-service-iis-configurations-setup-new-configuration-iis-support-ibm-cognos
  5. Restart IIS.
  6. Ensure that your IIS script has the correct URL and paths. Refer to IBM's support page for more information: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/automate-configuration-microsofts-internet-information-service-support-ibm-cognos-analytics
  7. Execute the IIS script once more.
  8. Restart IIS.
