Abstract
Solid State Drives (SSDs) are susceptible to becoming overheated and potentially shutting down if the drive enclosure in which they are situated is not fully populated with drives.
Content
In a partially populated drive enclosure, the enclosure sensor that monitors the temperature of the drives may return a false impression of the temperature of any SSDs located in that enclosure, thus failing to take preventative cooling measures in the case of overheating SSDs.
Any customers using SSDs in partially-populated enclosures are strongly encouraged to upgrade to a level of code containing the fix for this issue as soon as possible to avoid potential drive offline events.
Fix
This issue was fixed by APAR IC78538 in the V6.2.0.4 PTF release.
