IT42938: MESSAGE EXCEPTION OF TYPE 'SQLLOGBACKUP.DISCONTINUOUSLOGBACKUPEXCEPTION' ON MICROSOFT SQL LOG BACKUP

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The log backup of Microsoft SQL databases with IBM Spectrum
  Protect Plus can fail with these job log messages :
  
  ERROR,..,CTGGE1107,[<SQLServerAddress>] The log backup is
                     discontinuous for database [<DBName>] on
                     instance [<SQLInstance>].
  ERROR,..,CTGGA3276,Log backup failed for database
                     <SQLServerAddress>-><SQLInstance>-><DBName>:
                     Exception of type 'SqlLogBackup.
                     DiscontinuousLogBackupException' was thrown.
  
  Forcing a base database backup using the SLA policy option
  'Force full backup of resources' completes successfully but the
  next log backup still fails with the above errors.
  
  The cause is to be found in the database backup but the job log
  of this backup will display no message, warning or error.
  For this APAR to apply, both following conditions will be seen:
  1. The Microsoft SQL server language found with the t-sql query
        SELECT @@language
     is a non-english locale
  2. The following error has to be seen in the command log found
     in the job log of the database backup:

  This issue was observed with a Microsoft SQL server using the
  locale 'deutch'

Local fix

• If posible set SQL server locale to english

Problem conclusion

• This problem has been fixed so that SQL log backup of Germany
  language SQL server can be completed successfully.
