APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The following errors may be seen when attempting to start the
    client:
    
    ANS1017E SESSION REJECTED: TCP/IP CONNECTION FAILURE
    
    The following error will also be seen in the IBM Spectrum
    Protect client error log:
    
    ANS0361I DIAG: dbUpdEntry(): Insert(): errno = 28, "No space
    left on device"
    
    This condition can occur when IBM Spectrum Protect
    Backup-Archive Client services are started but there is no free
    space on the drive where the dsm.opt file resides.
    
    Due to the empty dsm.opt file and the missing connection
    information, the Backup-Archive Client cannot connect to the IBM
    Spectrum Protect Server (ANS1017E) and the dsm.opt will need to
    be restored or manually recreated.

Local fix

  • Ensure the location being used to store the dsm.opt file has
    adequate free disk space and is not at risk of becoming full

Problem conclusion

  • The user options file dsm.opt remains the same and no changes
    are made if no space left on the device. All subsequent dsmc or
    scheduled operations succeeds
