BRMS Networking: Adding a Relational Database Directory Entry Alias

Troubleshooting

Problem

Adding a Relational Database Directory Entry Alias for BRMS.

Resolving The Problem

The following includes instructions on how to properly add a Relational database Directory Entry Alias for BRMS:

1. On a command line, issue the following command:

DSPNETA

What is listed in the Default local location? This is what BRMS uses.

Note: It is recommended the Default local location name match the System name. If not, also ensure you can PING the Default local location name.

2. Issue the following command:

WRKRDBDIRE *ALL

What Entry is associated with Remote Location *LOCAL? Is it the same as the Default local location? If not, then an alias will need to be added.

Example

Relational Database Directory Entry for Remote Location *LOCAL = S1234567
Default local location = SYSA

Because they are different, an alias is required.

Issue the following command on SYSA to add an alias:

ADDRDBDIRE RDB(S1234567 SYSA) RMTLOCNAME(SYSA *IP)

Or you can use the following which should have the same effect.

ADDRDBDIRE RDB(S1234567 SYSA) RMTLOCNAME(*LOOPBACK)

All the other systems in the BRMS network group only need to add a standard Relational Database Directory Entry without an alias to point back to SYSA.
