IT42694: BACKUP AND RESTORE OF PVCS THAT HAVE 'WAIT FOR FIRST CONSUMER' VOLUME BINDING MODE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is unable to backup and restore
  persistent volume with storage class parameter VolumeBindingMode
  set to WaitForFirstConsumer. Copy backup PVC and restored PVC
  remain in Pending state waiting for the first consumer which
  causes backup and restore operation to time out.
  Joblog shows the following errors:

Local fix

• Change the value of storage class parameter volumeBindingMode
  from WaitForFirstConsumer to Immediate.

Problem conclusion

• Code changed were made to detect event waitForFirstConsumerEvent
  for successfully restored PVC in Pending mode and treat restore
