APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • CICS region ended up with a significant number of tasks waiting
    on storage in the ECDSA storage pool so using CICS explorer,
    selected 22 of these tasks and force purged them.
    
    On the Explorer confirmation screen clicked "OK" ten seconds
    in and the execution completed around thirty five seconds in
    suggesting the whole action took around twenty five seconds.
    
    However, I started with six hundred tasks in the Explorer Tasks
    view so expected to end up with five hundred and seventy eight
    once the selected tasks were purged. This seems to be the case
    fifteen seconds in, five seconds after "OK" is clicked but
    Explorer continues to imply it is still purging tasks for
    another twenty seconds.
    
    Looking at MSGUSR, the purges started at 12:51:47 and completed
    at 12:51:52 - also a five second interval.
    
    Looking at Explorer service data (trace) doing a find for CICS
    task 12345 shows it being purged at 17:51:42 (12:51:42 local)

Problem summary

  • If a large number of actions are queued up within CICS Explorer,
     such as a force purge on a large number of tasks, it can take a
     significant amount of time to resolve.  The reason for this is
     that every completed action causes a refresh of the visual
     resource table to take place, resulting in a delay for the
     operation to be completed.
    

Problem conclusion

  • CICS Explorer has been updated so that the visual resource table
     is refreshed periodically to reflect progress rather than after
     every action.

    This fix will be made available in Version 5.5.30 (33.0.4) of
    the CICS Explorer.
