Affected Domain

DS8900F – R9.3 GA or R9.3 SP1 and using Safeguarded Copy.

Abstract

DS8900F systems running Safeguarded Copy on R9.3 GA - 89.30.68.0 or R9.3 SP1 - 89.31.26.0 may experience a loss of access caused by dual LPAR reboot.

Description

Safeguarded Copy enhancements were made in R9.3 GA, for grouping tracks needed for copying data onto the Safeguarded Copy target.  At the end of the copy, these grouped tracks are not being demoted from Cache.  These tracks continue to accumulate in cache, which may result in the following:
  • Degraded Performance caused by depletion of available cache.
  • Internal timeout processing cached data tracks, while performing a spontaneous or requested ODD Dump or Warmstart; this may trigger a single cluster reboot (loss of CEC redundancy) or dual cluster reboot (loss of access).  Risk is proportional to the number of non-demoted tracks which have accumulated in cache.
